An Encouragement from Teachers’ Conference

Sola Fide’s Fall Break was (and always is) timed to coincide with a conference that our teachers attend. We get together with other teachers from schools like ours in the Southeast. I wanted to share a note of encouragement from this year’s conference.

One of the presenters compared spiritual life to his purchase and ownership of a fixer-upper boat. In his case, the boat needed to be bought off the scrap heap (we need to be redeemed). It needed to be completely overhauled in order to be useful (we need God to change our hearts). It also needs both regular and emergency maintenance (we need to be in God’s Word to sustain our faith).

So what’s my encouragement? Be in church this Sunday. While many of us will spend extra hours painting faces, carving pumpkins, and filling up buckets of candy, we ALL NEED to be refilled by the truth of Scripture. This weekend, take an extra hour to hear what God has to say about his infinite grace and mercy for you.

Trunk or Treat

This year’s Trunk or Treat event is on Saturday, October 29th. We’re looking forward to lots of fun games, imaginative costumes, and wild trunks. There’s also a taco supper planned. The fun begins at 5, but those decorating trunks should come early so that they can get set up. The event is more fun the more trunks we have. We’d love to have a few more.  If you want to decorate your trunk, please reach out to Cherie Miller miller.cheriel@gmail.com.

Pumpkin Patch!!!

The Pumpkin Patch volunteers are doing a great job of reaching out and welcoming the community to our campus. Thank you to the super-volunteers who have picked up multiple shifts to keep the patch running! We have just a few shifts left that need volunteers! It’s really easy to help sell pumpkins. You get to engage with the community, measure pumpkins with an-easy-to-use measuring tape, and then sell them like it's a yard sale.

Veterans Day

Sola Fide is thankful for the good work God has done through our nation’s veterans and active-duty service members. We will gather for some refreshments and some celebration on Friday, November 11th. There will be a fellowship time for students to mingle with veterans from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, and a flag-raising ceremony at 11:00.

During this event, we usually read the names of the veterans who are connected to our school family. If you have a family member or friend whom we should recognize, please fill out this form or email Mr. Schmiege with each veteran’s name, branch of service, years of service, and connection to Sola Fide. (example: Bob Smith, Marines, 1986-1994, Uncle of Pete)

Please also extend an invitation to any veterans or active-duty service members to join us at Sola Fide on November 11th. They can RSVP by emailing Mr. Schmiege, Mrs. Rott, or by using the form found at school.solafide.com/veterans. Spouses and other family members are also welcome to attend this event (even if your favorite veteran has passed away) and are asked to RSVP as well.

Sparkles Skate Night

Sola Fide has an upcoming event that puts the FUN in fundraiser! We’re having a skate night at Sparkles Family Fun Center (1104 Grayson HWY, 30045), just east of the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. Sparkles will give back a portion of the evening’s proceeds to Sola Fide. There’s a cool indoor playground, laser tag, and of course, plenty of skating. Make plans to join us on the evening of Thursday, November 17th!

After School Clubs

After school clubs are a great way to extend learning and growth into a broader variety of domains. Part of offering a broader variety of clubs might include having parent volunteers run a club or engaging an outside company to run a club. In the past, our clubs have been almost exclusively faculty-run, and ultra low cost.

Change might be good. We could bring in more variety. Change might also be frustrating. Clubs could vary widely in cost, duration, and frequency.

Mr. Schmiege would love to open up a dialogue about the things we do after school. If you have ideas to share or a club you hope Sola Fide can try, please reach out to Mr. Schmiege.
