International Fair + Jollof Wars

The Sola Fide Academy International Fair is coming soon! On Friday, March 4th, we’ll gather in the great hall and celebrate the diverse heritages and homelands that make our school special. Everyone is welcome to attend.

You do not have to host a table to attend, but the more people who host a table, the better. In the past, families have brought flags, significant cultural items, family heirlooms, family trees, and favorite foods. You can bring one or all of these things. You can even team up with another family if you’d like.

This year we are going to feature a Jollof Rice Contest. Jollof Rice is native to West Africa, and it is the source of quite a few friendly food controversies. (Read more here if you’re interested.) If your family is familiar with Jollof Rice, we would love to have you bring a large sample of your favorite style of Jollof. The attendees will taste the different varieties and vote for a winner. Please reach out to Mr. Schmiege if you have any questions about the evening or the contest.

Re-enrollment

Your child should have received re-enrollment paperwork during the last few days of January. This paperwork and the accompanying $100 registration fee are due on February 15th. If all of your child’s information is up-to-date, you can simplify the process by using the form found at solafide.com/nextyear. If you have questions about next school year, please reach out to Mr. Schmiege or Mrs. Lapp as soon as possible.

High-Impact Fundraising that costs $0

If you owe state income taxes in Georgia, you could help Sola Fide raise money. This opportunity is so impactful, that it could keep tuition costs from rising next year. You can choose to have a large portion of your state income taxes go to Sola Fide instead of to the state.

The short version of the program looks like this:

  • Sign up to fund Sola Fide scholarships at georgiasso.com

  • Get confirmation from the Dept. of Revenue

  • Donate to GASSO

  • Sola Fide receives 95% of your donation

  • When you file state income taxes in early 2023, the amount you donated to GASSO will be a credit that is the equivalent of taxes already paid

For more information watch this video or read up at georgiasso.com. As of this week, there is still $21 Million available that parents, grandparents, and other school supporters can claim for the school of their choice. Mr. Schmiege would gladly take you through the process.
